The future of the multichannel video bundle gets more and more complex with the introduction of each new direct-to-consumer streaming service. Even still, there’s no denying that bundles may be in some consumers’ best interest, as stacks of D2C subscriptions are becoming increasingly expensive, and challenging to navigate. MVPDs, vMVPDs and device manufacturers are certain to all have different levels of success with channel bundles as consumer behaviors continue to change. Who is best positioned to keep benefitting from the bundle? How do content providers navigate the next five to 10 years and balance growing DTC services with maintaining legacy distribution models? Will the expanding streaming video ecosystem eventually be pulled back together into a new service bundles and if so, what will that look like?
